Sue Smith – Dance in Devon

Sue is Director of Dance in Devon and is an independent dance artist. She is passionate about her belief that accessible, high quality performance, that has the power to touch others, lies in the most unexpected places. She believes in ‘dance’ and ‘theatre’ to reflect and reveal real lives across the broadest spectrum of experience. Sue has worked with many choreographers and made new work in a range of settings from Tate Modern to Cornish headlands. She was Choreography Lecturer at Dartington College of Arts (2007-2009) and completed a PhD at Falmouth 2015. Sue toured internationally with CandoCo Dance Company 1992-9 and was Associate Director 2003-5. Sue is a Fellow of the Clore Leadership Programme 2016/17.

Dance in Devon is the region’s dance development agency, developing progressive dance engagement, learning and performance experiences that are always for the benefit of the public and that challenge ideas about what dance can be. Their innovative dance projects are imagined and realised with partners across the county, often in unusual spaces and places, through strong participatory work including: community celebrations, dance for older people in residential care, young people and mental health, artist development and early years work. We develop dance adventures for the people of Devon and beyond and we work with the highest calibre of artists to share the very best dance experiences.
