Eyeview cultural programme forms part of Torbay’s Great Place Scheme: a pilot scheme funded by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund during 2017-20

Through 2019, Eyeview presented a series of site-specific commissions, participatory projects and community actions. The programme has supported artists and communities to animate and re-imagine Torbay’s culture and heritage. Cultural events and activities have gathered people together, animating key heritage assets and platforming new work in collaboration with local, regional and national partners.

During the 2020 pandemic we amended our programme as appropriate. The team have been working to support the sector as part of Torbay’s Great Place Scheme, evaluate learnings and develop opportunities for the future. The extensive Torbay evaluation is now underway and will report in early 2021. Keep up to date by visiting Torbay Culture’s news and updates pages.

Watch the films below to look back on Eyeview’s 2019 events programmes and meet the artists and communities involved.

"The real thing that draws me back to this place and makes me feel happy about living here now is my access to the sea, my access to really beautiful quiet places, which is fundamentally what we're trying to explore with this work.
Eyeview's (Extra)Ordinary program is quickly approaching, to paint you a more vivid picture of what to expect over then 10 days we have another exclusive insiders video feature with Trio of Men's Hugh Nankivell, Steve Sowden, and composer, performer and music activist from Hong Kong, Kung Chi Shing.
"I have always been fascinated by the microscopic surfaces of rocks and bones... The Cave Hunters and the Truth Machine will be a product of my increasing fascination with cave palaeontology, at the heart of which lies specimens like this one here at Torquay Museum which is a hyaena skull, about 35,000-40,000 years old.
"At (extra)ordinary I will be leading a project which is a large-scale sewing project. The fact that Singer lived here at Oldway Mansion and the Singer sewing machine company, were sewing machines for home and leisure... it made making and sewing a much more accessible thing and that was like able to be in people's houses.
